How should I maintain a personalised natural coir doormat made by Zerbini.shop?

A natural coir doormat requires regular and gentle cleaning. As natural coir fibres tend to absorb moisture, the mat must not be washed with water, either by hand or in a washing machine.

To keep it clean and in good condition over time, we recommend:

  1. Shake the doormat by turning it upside down over a drying rack and, if necessary, using a carpet beater to remove dust and dirt.
  2. Brush the surface with a stiff-bristled brush, following the direction of the fibres.
  3. For a more thorough clean, use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment, set to the lowest power setting, as natural coir tends to shed some fibres during use.
  4. For deeper periodic cleaning, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the entire surface and leave it for approximately 15–20 minutes. Remove it with a stiff-bristled brush and finish by vacuuming away any remaining bicarbonate and dirt.
  5. Clean the rubber backing with a slightly damp cloth and a mild detergent.
  6. Never wash the doormat in a washing machine or immerse it in water.
