Zerbini.shop Produces the World’s Largest Doormat

Zerbini.shop, a brand of MDM S.r.l., has produced the world’s largest doormat for the Spanish airline Volotea.
Measuring 10 metres in length and 7.5 metres in height, for a total surface area of 75 square metres, the doormat created by Zerbini.shop enabled Volotea to secure the Guinness World Record for the largest doormat ever made.

“Being chosen by such an important company as Volotea for a project of this scale — and supporting them in achieving a Guinness World Record — is a source of immense pride and satisfaction for our team,” said Giuseppe Stallo, CEO and founder of MDM S.r.l., the company behind the Zerbini.shop brand.

“This collaboration symbolises the growth of our brand, founded in 2021 and, in less than four years, established as one of the leading names in the field of custom and neutral doormats, serving businesses, brands and private customers.”

The doormat was unveiled during an exclusive event organised by Volotea on Thursday 8 May at Olbia Airport, celebrating the airline’s 75 millionth passenger.
On the same day, a Guinness World Records representative officially confirmed the achievement.
The news was also featured by several local media outlets in Puglia, underlining the exceptional nature of this Made in Puglia success story.

How the world’s largest doormat was made

The record-breaking mat was produced using synthetic coir, 13 mm thick and camel-coloured.
Using the inlay technique, Zerbini.shop personalised the mat with the message requested by Volotea:

“Ciao mamma! Sono il passeggero 75.000.000.”
(Hi Mum! I’m the 75,000,000th passenger.)

The inlay technique involves inserting precisely cut pieces from other mats into recesses in the main mat to create text, logos or images.
Favoured by Zerbini.shop for its durability and visual quality, this method produces doormats that are both resistant and aesthetically impeccable.

Due to its scale and complexity, the project required four months of work and a dedicated team of five people.

“Everything began at the end of January,” explains Elia Stallo, Account Manager at Zerbini.shop and MDM S.r.l., and one of the key figures in the project.
“The scope and ambition of the project were clear from the very first call. Once we analysed the requirements, we realised we had all the skills needed to bring it to life.
The actual production and measurement of the mat for the Guinness World Record were only the visible part of a much larger process. Over several months, we provided technical, graphic, production and logistical consultancy, ensuring every detail met Volotea’s standards — delivering precision, quality and on-time results.”

A record that required complete reorganisation

The importance of the collaboration and the size of the project required a full internal reorganisation of production activities.
Despite the significant effort behind this special commission, Zerbini.shop continued to process and ship regular e-commerce orders thanks to flexible and efficient resource management.

“Although we do not officially hold the Guinness World Record — that recognition belongs to Volotea — taking part in such a remarkable initiative and supporting our client throughout the process has been an incredible experience,” added Giuseppe Stallo.
“I would like to thank Volotea for choosing us, and our entire MDM S.r.l. and Zerbini.shop team for their professionalism and dedication. Without them, this exceptional achievement would not have been possible.”

For the occasion, Zerbini.shop also handled the shipping and on-site installation of the record-breaking mat at Olbia Airport.
Two members of the production team assembled the mat piece by piece, like a giant puzzle — a task requiring precision, speed and expert knowledge of the product’s technical characteristics.
In this way, Zerbini.shop ensured not only a high-quality product but also continuous support and on-site assistance.

The measurement ceremony

To officially validate the Guinness World Record application, the official measurement took place on Wednesday 23 April at MDM S.r.l.’s headquarters in Grottaglie (Taranto), in the presence of both the MDM team and Volotea representatives.

An architect appointed specifically for the occasion carried out precise measurements — length, height, thickness and total surface area — following the official Guinness World Records protocol.
Once verified and certified, the measurements were submitted to the airline for the formal record-recognition process.
